A beautiful pair of Chinese enamelled vases c1860. Of good height they are well painted with battle scenes one one side and the Emperor on the other. Fabulous colours and floral borders.

Our cover piece is an extraordinary Chinese export ladies lacquer cabinet on stand. The upper section is a jewel cabinet with a space for a pocket watch to hang. The lower section is a removable sewing case with its original ivory implements. Beneath this is a writing slope and there is a secret drawer to the side. But the most amazing thing about this cabinet is that we found a letter inside explaining its provenance: The cabinet was bought by William Young of Hobart in Canton and given to his daughter Elizabeth in Hobart in 1837 when she was 14 years old.

A superb early 19th century blue and white porcelain candle stick. Such objects were used ritually at altars and ancestor shrines. This is a fairly large example with underglaze blue characters and crackel glaze.

A beautifully made Chinese hardwood display cabinet with amboyna panels c1900. The amboyna panel hides five small drawers with silver handles, and the tamboor doors to the base reveal two further small drawers with silver handles. Exceptionally well made with beautiful woods.

A charming early 19th century Chinese blue and white bottle vase c1820. Simply painted with a scene of a house amongst pleasure gardens such objects were exported most often to other Asian markets such as Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Chinese lacquer was widely imported to Europe and highly prized. This is a stunning example of Chinese export lacquer ware. It is a tilt top tripod table in the Regency lion paw feet and is c1830. The painting of the surface is superb with scenes of pleasure gardens and boats. The top is also in very good condition which is quite unusual as they generally are quite damaged with use. Chinese manufacturers by this point were emulating European design to make their product more desirable in West - an ironic twist in the adaptation of Chinese design by European manufacturers.

A beautiful Chinese export lacquer, gilt and painted fan c1830. Known as a "Fan of a Thousand Faces" each face is actually a sliver of painted ivory and each costume made of woven silk. The lacquer sticks are decorated with a scene of people in a pleasure garden and the whole thing is in perfect condition. It is framed in a later black jappaned box which has served to preserve it so well.

A wonderful pair of Chinese Export parrots in cobalt on a green base c1780. Pairs of cockerals, parrots, dogs, monkeys etc were exported to Britain throughout the 18th century ceasing with the rise of cheaper Staffordshire figures.

A large and very decorative pair Chinese enamelled porcelain vases c1880. Painted with scenes of people in pleasure gardens with a border of flowers and leaves.

A chinese export black lacquer writing box c1840. Interesting to compare this with the French red example; European "jappaning" is raised on the surface whilst Chinese lacquer is flat with gold figures and images. The people pictured in European work are very different to those in Chinese works and European compositions tend to follow established patterns of horizon and perspective.
