A French red japanned and gilt chinoiserie bracket clock c1860. The fashion for the Louis XVIth style started around this time in France and this beautiful clock covers two bases by being in that style but also decorated in the chinoiserie manner. Charming figures decorate the base with floral garlands - which are much more Louis LVIth than Chinese! - around the remainder of the case. In good working order.

His Neo Classical style was particularly popular with the Bonaparte family. Madam Recamier married a wealthy banker and was a very fashionable hostess during the Empire.
