Mahogany Campaign Chest A mid Victorian mahogany campaign chest of drawers c1870. Brass bound and in two pieces this is typical of the pieces made throughout the 19th century for the young scions of Empire. They were often made in India by Chinese labour and then exported to Britain. Fine original colour and turned legs. Shown with a pair of Edwardian riding boots, Japanese Imari stick stand c1890, and three extraordinary taxidermied albino cobras and a mongoose c1900. |

Three Anglo Indian Teak Tripod Tables A fabulous trio of Anglo Indian teak tilt top tables c1830. Two of them are a matching pair and the third is very similar. The Indian Empire was a great source of domestic export goods for the British who exploited cheap labour and local materials. Much furniture for the British domestic market was made in Calcutta and Bombay using local timbers and these are a fine early example. Beautifully carved columns and lions paw feet with tops of one piece of teak retaining its fantastic colour. Classic William IVth decoration. Shown with them a very fine Chinese porcelain famille noir vase c1760. |
