A superb quality Goncalo Alvez and brass inlay Regency writing table c1815.This is an unusual wood, often used by Gillows, and this table could possibly be by them as it is very similar to examples in their design book. Goncalo Alvez is a Brazillian wood used mostly during the Napoleonic wars as Brazil was neutral and able to avoid the French blockades of British ports which prevented the easy importation of mahogany and rosewood.
