A pair of Marseilles Faience vases
A superb pair of late eighteenth century Marseilles Faience lidded vases with country scenes and a band of oak leaves below square handles in blue and yellow. Both bear the underglaze blue "VP" mark for the factory Veuve Perrin and both are in perfect condition.
Faience ware was hugely popular in France from the late seventeenth century but the combination of the revolution and the greater demand for English style ceramics were the death knell for the industry and by 1809 there was only one factory remaining.
