Bronze console table

A sensational piece of Western Australian history. This immpressive glass topped bronze console table was made for the main banking chamber of the Commonwealth Bank's Forest Place, Perth, building in 1933. John Smith Murdoch, designer of the parliament building in Canberra, designed this and the GPO buildings as the cornerstones of the Forest Place development in Central Perth in the interwar Beaux-Arts style. Given the size and importance of this piece to the interior it is more than likely that Smith Murdoch was involved in its design.
