Dancer Resting oil by Vincent Brown
"Dancer Resting" oil on canvas by Vincent brown dated 1943.
Vincent Brown was born in Brisbane in 1901. He studied at the Slade School (with Schwabe), and the Central School of Art (with McNab), London and 1936-39 at Ruskin School, Oxford and Oxford Tech College1939-40. During his stay in England, his work expanded to absorb much of what was best in British Art of the 1930’s. The Queensland Art Gallery
presented a Survey Exhibition of his work in December 1990, combined with a commercial exhibition at Riverhouse Galleries, both of which demonstrated the quality of his modernist paintings. His work is represented in the collections of the Art Galleries of NSW, Queensland, the National Gallery of Australia and the National Gallery of Victoria, as well as regional galleries at Armidale, Ballarat and the British Museum and the Victoria and Alberts Museums in London.
