This is a sensationally painted work with wonderful use of colour and retaining its original superb gilt frame.
Persephone was the daughter of Demeter, forced to spend half the year in the underworld. Demeter is the Goddess of grain and when her daughter joins her again each spring she celebrates by bringing fertility to the fields.
