An Elephant Clock in bronze and enamel c1880. This style of clock was first fashionable during the reign of Louis XVIth and is a hybrid Chinoiserie style. Ironically the Chinese then became enamoured of European clocks and there are still French Chinoiserie clocks in the Forbidden City collection.. In perfect working order.
