French mahogany commode c1790.
A French citronnier and mahogany commode c1790. Citronnier was a highly prized decorative wood in 18th cent France that was found in the French Caribbean, and like acacia wood, produced only small amounts of usable timber. The fragrance of the flowers and leaves are like that of the lemon tree. In very fine condition the piece has its original beautifully coloured marble top which is a great rarity.
