George III mahogany secretaire sideboard
A superb and unusual mahogany secretaire sideboard c1790. The exceptional quality of this piece is underscored by the miraculous survival of the original brass galery. (The gallery would have originally been hung with silk to prevent splashing the wall when carving or mixing punch etc.) The secretaire section to the centre would indicate that the piece was a highly personalised order from a leading cabinet maker . The sideboard has two cellarette cupboards to either side behind false drawers with two real drawers below on either side. The knee hole section a double cupboard with a fold down lid revealing another storage area above it. Of fine colour and with mahogany crossbanding and very fine boxwood and marquetry stringing.
