Large Pair of British Ironstone Vases
A superb pair of British ironstone vases attributed to Mason's c1830. Richly decorated with an "Imari" design, cobalt Foo dog fimials and handles. Mason's were perhaps the most successful of the British potters to market, produce and popularize Oriental style ceramics. They even introduced a faux Chinese reign mark on some of their pieces from this period. Interestingly the company started as an importer of Chinese export porcelain but moved into local production to avoid the duty paid on the imported ware and undercut it's high wholesale cost. The vases bear the printed mark "Japan Stone China" and both are in perfect condition.
Height: 63 cm
