Ottoman Period Purple Velvet Cover
A sensational 19th century Ottoman silk velvet cover with gold thread petit point embroidery. The colour of this piece is delicious, a muted eggplant purple with very fine quality embroidery. Perhaps as beautiful, in a different way, is the back which is a beautiful hand loomed glazed cotton. Such pieces were intended for use at ceremonial occasions and would often be used to wrap gifts at weddings or cover a table used as part of a ceremony. In very good condition throughout.
