“Playing for Supper”, oil on canvas c1860 from the circle of Frederick Daniel Hardy. Frederick Daniel Hardy, born 1826, dying 1911, was a painter of genre scenes, especially interiors with children. He studied under Thomas Webster, exhibiting at the Royal Academy between 1851 and 1898 and the British Institute between 1851 and 1856.
His work is represented in the collections of the Leicester Art Gallery and the Victorian & Albert Museum, London.
His work is illustrated in the Dictionary of Victorian Painters and Popular 19th Century Painting a Dictionary of Genre Painting.
