Arthur Ralph Middleton Todd was born in Newlyn in 1891, dying in London in 1966; he studied with his father Ralph Todd and Stanhope Forbes, at the Central School of Art and the Slade in 1920-21. He was a figure and portrait painter, etcher and engraver. He was the son of Ralph Todd and studied at the Slade and in Italy, France and Holland. He exhibited widely, at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of Painter Etchers and the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour, amongst many. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter Etchers in 1923 and full Member in 1930, he was also elected an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1939 and a full Member in 1940, an Associate of the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour in 1929 and a full Member in 1937.

His work is represented in the collection of the Tate Gallery, London.
