James Ranalph Jackson was born in 1882 in Palmerston New Zealand. He arrived in Australia in 1894 and died in Sydney in 1975. He studied at the Royal Art Society School, Sydney, the National Gallery of Victoria School, Colarossi’s in Paris and with Frank Brangwyn in London. He was a Foundation Member of the Australian Academy of Art and one of the first Fellows of the Royal Art Society of New South Wales. He taught at the Royal Art School between 1971 and 1926.
His work is represented in Australian State Galleries and New Zealand public galleries.
