Dora Lynnell Wilson was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in England, arriving in Australia in childhood; she died in Melbourne in 1946. She studied at the National Gallery of Victoria School between 1901 and 1907, afterwards, travelling & studying in the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Corsica. She was known for her paintings of Melbourne street scenes, painted with great clarity and with atmosphere.

Her work is represented in the collections of the Art Galleries of New South Wales, South Australia Western Australia and Queensland, as well as the regional galleries of Bendigo and Castlemaine.
