"The Yellow Hat" oil on board by Alexandre Jean Drahonet dated 1831.

Alexandre Jean Drahonet, otherwise known as Dubois-Drahonnet, was born in Paris in 1791, dying in Versailles in 1834. He was a painter of gouaches, pastels, and engraver, as well as historical scenes, portraits and genre scenes. He exhibited at the Paris Salon between 1812 and 1834 and won a medal there in 1827. He was first and foremost a portraitist; ‘his work is distinguished by a purity of line, assured composition….and an excellent command of light and shade, reminiscent of Ingres’.

His work is illustrated in the Dictionnaire des Petits Maîtres de la Peinture.

His work is represented in the collections of the museums at Amiens, Amsterdam, Bordeaux, Haarlem and the Hague.
