“The Old Farm” Oil on canvas c1950 by Robert Johnson. Robert Johnson was born in 1890 in Auckland, dying in 1964. He studied at the Elam School of Art, Auckland between 1910 and 1914. He arrived in Sydney in 1921 and became a member of the Royal Art Society, Sydney from 1921. He became well known for his landscapes and paintings of Sydney Harbour, skilfully painted in an impressionist manner. Among his many commissions was one from the Commonwealth Government to paint a picture of Canberra for presentation to the new art gallery at Wellington, NZ in 1936. His work is represented in the collections of most Australian State galleries and public galleries in New Zealand. The work has been professionally cleaned. Framed dimensions: 70cm x 61.5cm.
