‘Spring Flowers’ Oil on canvas c1920 by Herbert Davis Richter R.B.A., R.I., R.O.I., R.S.W. Richter was born in Brighton in 1874, dying in 1955. He was a painter of flowers, figures, scenes with figures and interiors, and was a teacher. He studied under J M Swan and Frank Brangwyn between 1895 and 1906 and exhibited at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Salon des Artistes Français from 1928.
He took part in the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1937 and was awarded a Gold Medal. He was elected a Member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1910, a Member of the Royal Society of Painters in Oils in 1917, a Member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Oils in 1920, and a Member of the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours in 1937. Richter’s work was highly regarded in his lifetime and is represented in collections throughout Britain. The work has been professionally cleaned and framed measures: 79cm wide x 69.5cm tall.
