Madame Recamier bust

SOLD ‘Madame Recamier’ a late 19th century copy after the original marble bust by Joseph Chinard. Madam Recamier was, in the context of our times, a huge celebrity and influencer! She lived from 1777 to 1849 and her salon in Paris was attended by the cream of French intellectual, artistic, military and political circles. The original sits in the RISD Museum whilst a terracotta version is in the Getty Museum in Malibu. This is a very well carved example and c1880. Height: 47cm $4,985
