Paul Jacoulet was born in Paris in 1902, dying in Japan in 1960. He was a French artist who specialised in woodblock prints in the Japanese style. His highly decorative subjects were drawn from oriental mythology and characters from contemporary life. He was born in France but moved to Japan with his family at the age of four, where he remained. The painstaking detail of his prints is apparent; Jacoulet is reported to have sometimes used 300 blocks to create a single print. The piece has been professionally conserved. Dimensions: 54cm wide x 67cm tall.
