painted tilt top wine table

USD 0.00

An unusual mahogany tilt top wine table. The base is c1760 and very finely carved, whilst the octagonal top is very finely painted with a scene depicting Alexander and Diogenes. The top and bottom were most certainly put together in the 18th century, the question is where did the top come from? Stylistically the painting is late late 17th, early 18th century. Was it an architectural panel that was ‘up cycled’ as a table top because it was so fine? Who knows! Either way the painting is superb, as is the base, and the proportion of the whole piece really works. We’ve added an octagonal piece of light perspex to sit on the top to protect the painted surface so you could use this as a fabulous side table.
